Auscritic Film Awards
The Australian Film Critics Association (Auscritic) Film Awards, along with other key award ceremonies across the country, recognise outstanding work in the areas of Australian film, film not in the English language, documentary, directing, cinematography, acting, editing, and screenwriting.
Winners are determined by a two-stage voting process involving Auscritic’s membership body. Auscritic members are professional critical observers and as such are well placed to provide informed discussion, analysis, and comment about Australian and world cinema.
The Auscritic Film Awards are bestowed in the following categories:
- Best Australian Film
- Best Director
- Best Actor
- Best Actor in a Supporting Role
- Best Editing
- Best Screenplay
- Best Cinematography
- Best Australian Documentary
- Best International Documentary
- Best International Film (English Language)
- Best International Film (Not in the English Language)
Auscritic Writing and Broadcast Awards
The aim of the Auscritic Writing and Broadcast Awards is to raise the level of film culture in Australia by recognising excellence in the work of Australian film critics and commentators, and to broaden public awareness of film as an art form and cultural artifact.
There are five categories in the Auscritic Writing and Broadcast Awards, each of which carry a cash prize.
- Ivan Hutchinson Award for best long-form writing on an Australian film ($500)
- Award for best review of an individual Australian film ($250)
- Award for best review of an individual non-Australian film ($250)
- Jim Murphy Broadcast award for best radio show or podcast ($250)
- The Lee Gambin Award for Repertory Film Criticism: Cultural Coverage of a Film Made Prior to 1995 ($250) – in collaboration with Cinemaniacs
Work eligible for The Lee Gambin Award for Repertory Film Criticism: Cultural Coverage of a Film Made Prior to 1995 includes written essays, commentary tracks, and video essays. Podcasts or YouTube videos are not eligible.
Work eligible for the Ivan Hutchinson Award for best long-form writing on an Australian film includes long-form reviews, long-form articles and long-form interview pieces exclusively on Australian films.
All submissions must be published and available during the calendar year being recognised at the awards ceremony.
Television coverage is not eligible for consideration.
